In Game 2 of the Clarksville ITS at Frontline Games, my Combined Army faced off against Spud's Morat Aggression Force in Quadrant Control. You can read about Game 1 in my last post.
Lists
I used the list from Game 1 again. The pair of Ikadrons should help keep the near quadrants in my control, while the pair of Shrouded Minelayers can sneak into the far quadrants. Forward Deployment on the Skiavoros helps get him into scoring position right away, while the Charontid and Speculo do the heavy lifting.
The three Suryats along with the Raktorak and Kornak formed a Fireteam: Core. Between Strategos L1 and double Tactical Awareness, he was potentially sitting at 13 Orders. I'd have to do some serious trimming to avoid getting rolled.
Deployment
My opponent won the Lt roll and picked deployment. While second turn is pretty valuable in Quadrant Control, I was scared of his list's potential and so decided to take first turn.
Both Ikadrons go on the edge of the Depolyment Zone, one on either extreme flank. Kerr-Nau is deployed prone underneath the aircraft. My HVT is up against the purple building on the left. One Shrouded (along with his Mine) in against the brown paper building in the center left, while the other is against the tall central building. The Skiavoros uses Forward Deployment to get in front of the L-shaped building on the right, prone by a car and a barrier. One Daturazi is behind the brown building in the center of my DZ, while the other is behind the L-shaped building. I hold the Charontid and Speculo in reserve.
Here is a view of my opponent's Deployment Zone:
His Fireteam was deployed against the central barricade at the edge of his Deployment Zone. A Suryat HMG stood at either end, the Suryat HRL was on the center left, the Raktorak was prone in the middle, and Kornak was prone on the center right. There was also an Ikadron between Kornak and the right-most Suryat, behind the kiosk in the center of the barrier. His Med-Tech was prone on the roof of the white building, with one Slave Drone behind the white building and the other behind the gray cube with red acrylic pieces next to the other Ikadron. His HVT went on the far side of the two story purple building on the left.
My Charontid went prone on the right side of my Deployment Zone, near the Ikadron on that flank. The Speculo went prone just on the other side of the barrier from the Suryat HMG on my left (my opponent's right). His reserve model was a Rodok KHD, which attempted to counter deploy behind the blue car just outside my opponents Deployment Zone. I made the Skiavoros my Datatracker, while the Med-Tech was Spud's.
Round 1
Combined: Both Daturazi's remain safe through their Impetuous Orders, with the one on the right landing Smoke near the Charontid. The Speculo hops the fence, and drops prone so that only the left-most Suryat HMG can see the Impersonation Marker. Staying prone she moves into B2B with the Suryat, who attempts to Dodge away. The Speculo wins the F2F, and the Suryat fails his ARM save. With the Suryat off the table the Speculo has an Ikadron staring at her, so I leave her alone for now. However, since the Fireteam has lost its BS+3 MOD, I'm comfortable sending the Charontid after them. The Smoke allows him to engage just the other Suryat HMG. It takes a few orders, but eventually the it goes down and the Charontid can start working on the Suryat HRL. Two Crits make it a quick job, and the Suryat's Unconscious body drops behind a barrier. I use a Coordinated Order to advance the two Ikadrons, Kerr Nau, and the Shrouded Minelayer on the left. I spend another Order on the Shrouded, who continues moving into the far left Quadrant while knocking out the Ikadron locking the Speculo down. With the Ikadron's husk still standing there, the Speculo has a golden opportunity: she fires her Boarding shotgun into it and the template splashes onto Kornak and the Raktorak. The Ikadron is totally destroyed by the shots, while Kornak takes a Wound and the Raktorak is KO'd. Another Order moves the Speculo back against cover while killing Kornak. The Shrouded is able to sneak over and place a mine covering the Rodok. Finally, the Skiavoros uses its Datatracker Irregular Order to move into the near right Quadrant.
MAF: Spud is in LoL, but the Rodok doesn't care. An Ikadron comes around a corner to incinerate the Speculo, but she successfully Dodges. The Med-tech moves across the roof and tries to get its Slave Drone over to the Suryat HRL, but it gets shot by the Charontid before it can resuscitate anyone. A Cautious Move gets the Med-tech off the roof and out of LoF of the Chaontid. Using its Datatracker Irregular Order, the Med-tech moves into the far right Quadrant, taking fire from the Speculo, but she misses her shot. Finally, a Rasyat walks in on the edge of the far left Quadrant.
I'm dominating both of my near Quadrants, while his maneuvering with the Med-tech and the Rasyat secures him the far Quadrants. We each have our Datatrackers in a Dominated Quadrant, netting us 2 Objective Points each. Pretty impressive work on Spud's part considering the losses he sustained.
Round 2
Combined: The Daturazi's again advance safely with their Impetuous Orders. A Coordinated Order move the Daturazis, Kerr Nau, and the Skaivoros, and the Spearhead Daturazi misses his smoke toss with the second half of the order. Another Coordinated Order activates the same crew and the Daturazi once more biffs his throw. Spending a Regular Order gives him the requisite third try, landing smoke for the Charontid. Using the cover of smoke, he Charontid moves into position and kills the remaining Ikadron and the Rasyat. The Skiavoros uses its Irregular Order to kills the Med-Tech with his Plasma Rifle, and then moves over to Secure the HVT. The Shrouded Minelayer re-camouflages in order to sneak behind the Rodok. Once in position, a single salvo of Combi Rifle shots eliminate the Rodok, tabling Spud.
Final Score
I earn 4 Objectives Points in each of the final two Rounds for Dominating more Quadrants with my Datatracker in one. With the two I earned in the first round put me at 10 Objective Points to Spud's 2.
Result: 10-2 Combined Army Major Victory
Notes
- Having the Fireteam lined up along the fence made them a very tempting target for the Speculo. Were they spread out a bit more, covering each other, I might have had to take a different approach.
- My deployment was a little sloppy: the Charontid was too close to the Ikadron on the right. If I wasn't careful, an HRL template might've splashed onto the Ikadron when the Charontid went after the Suryats.
